Creative Minds Making Theatre Magic

It has been such a fantastic opportunity colaborating and creating with the talent at Unionville Theatre Company. BDM Artistic Director Stacey-Lea Marhue, had the pleasure of working along side some of the theatre community’s best in the business on a wonderful production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. Her choreographic work combined with the exceptional direction of Mark Cassius & Renee Deighton, made for a top notch stage production of what has now become a musical theatre classic! Congratulations to all involved. Looking forward to our next creative process!

Another proud moment as dance educators!

A huge congratulations to our former Company Dancer William Sinclair for snagging a featured role in the 2022-23 production of The Nutcracker with The National Ballet of Canada in Toronto.
We are so proud and excited for him and the path he's chosen in the dance world! Looking forward to seeing
William perform as Misha on stage at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts!
Thanks again for the shout out to BDM Studio in our local community newspaper, Beach Metro News.

Feedback & Comment Box...

We are always appreciative of our parent’s feedback and comments on how we are doing here at BDM Studio. Although it has been challenging navigating around the pandemic restrictions while still being able to provide fun and educational classes, our BDM staff have been doing a stellar job. We thank this parent for your positive and supportive feedback…

Hi Stacey-Lea & BDM staff
I just wanted to say that Caroline is loving her mini hip hop class. I know you all take extra care making sure the parents are there before letting the little ones out as well. Your teachers always makes sure they see the parent before letting the child go and I’m grateful and appreciate that. This is Caroline's second season in dance (in addition to a week of summer camp from this summer) and I'm very happy with BDM :)
Heather

We are back, and it feels so good!

Summer Camps are back and we couldn’t be happier! After what has been a very trying year and a half, we are so happy to be able to see our students and campers in person once again! The restrictions that we all have had set upon us since the beginning of the pandemic, has unfortunately become a very difficult time for some to adjust to. It has made us even more aware of the importance of our social and physical well being in order to have a healthy mind and body. This includes children of all ages!
So without a doubt , we are so grateful to be able to re-open our doors here at BDM studio and welcome back all new and returning dance and music students… finally! We look forward to filling our studio space with even more joy and positive vibes as we welcome students back this fall!

Recital Costumes should never go to waste…

This post will be short and sweet… kind of like our Jr Novice Company dancers in the photos! LOL
These little cuties decided to brighten our day by wearing their ballet recital costumes
and posing like rock stars outside of our studio!
Thanks to some of our ‘dance moms’ for organizing the photo shoot! #dancefamily #teambdm

E-mails That Put a Smile on Your Face!

With every new year here at BDM Studio, there are new beginnings. After close to 15 years of educating kids and adults in the arts(including dance, music, acting, comedy, improv and more), we have seen our students grow up and expand their wings to move on to new experiences. Some have gone on to pursue careers in the entertainment industry in front and behind the scenes. Some have decided to follow in the footsteps of our staff here at BDM , and teach the next generation of performers.
Then there are lot of our previous students who have gone on to study at Colleges or Universities in a completely unrelated field to dance, music, or acting and have told us that the work ethic, discipline and dedication they have learned at BDM Studio have greatly helped them in all other aspects of their lives.
Nothing makes us happier or more proud to know that our students have only had positive, memorable experiences here at BDM Studio.
The e-mail below was recently sent to us from a former student/Company dancer of BDM.
These are the best e-mails to receive!

Hi Stacey-Lea
I would like to start with an endless amount of thanks for the support you have given me to grow as a dancer and more importantly into a young women in the last 6 years. I wish all the best to you the studio, the teachers and the girls, growing up together as a team has been amazing and they’re like sisters to me.
All the best and good luck at comp this year! Life will not be the same without my dance fam. If you can please let the teachers know the positive influence they’ve had on me throughout the years. I have a huge amount of gratitude for BDM. Love you guys!! x
Sincerely, Jordan

BDM Company Dancers @Pure Dance Convention... the training never stops!

As they say "knowledge is power"... and it's so true! The learning and growing never stops for our dance students here at BDM Studio. Our teachers (including our guest teachers)are all extremely talented in their various genres of dance, and  have a unique and exceptional approach to their teaching methods. In return our students are thriving in all of their classes because they are being exposed to different techniques, styles and instructors within our studio.

However, we also find it beneficial for our students to be exposed to other choreographers and dance educators in the professional dance world. Enter.. the world of 'dance conventions'! Last Saturday was a fantastic dance filled day for some of our dancers who took part at the Pure Dance Convention in Toronto. We are so proud of those dancers who jumped right in and tried a few new dance styles, made new friends, and gave it their all from 9am through to 4pm!

Yes... knowledge most definitely is power! Our dancers walked away from last Saturday's experience with more insight, passion and knowledge of all forms of dance, which makes for a powerful dancer!

BDM DANCERS at PURE DANCE CONVENTION 2017!

A proud moment as a Dance & Music Educator!

The below message was received recently from one of our long time students at the "Beaches Dance & Music Studio".
This is why we do what we do... our students mean the world to us! Congrats Mary!  We are so very proud of you!

To Stacey-Lea & the BDM teaching staff,
I hope you, and the studio are well!
I wanted to let you know that I have been accepted into the Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance Program at Sheridan College! I would like to thank you for all of the wonderful years of dance you have given me. At the audition they asked those who could tap to do a triple time step and I felt I could do it because of you. I truly couldn't have done this without your teaching and I will never forget that. I will always cherish all of my memories at BDM Studio.
Thank you again!
Mary ~

Springtime = Competition Time

Well, our Beaches Dance and Music Studio Company Dancers are rehearsing like crazy in preparation for our upcoming Competition Season! This is definitely one of the most exciting times of the year for our Company Dancers and our Teachers. When preparing our students for their Dance Competitions it is not about 'winning', but more about discipline, teamwork and the love of the art! One of the primary goals of our Dance & Music Studio is to teach life lessons and skills that offer children the best chance for success . Dance & Music education encompasses far more than just the technique your children learn. We believe the discipline of Dance & Music training gives young people a better understanding of commitment through learning, experiencing the spirit of teamwork, and discovering what they can accomplish through hard work :) The Beaches Dance & Music Studio staff hope that through our Dance & Music classes we help to educate the minds, bodies, and souls of our students, by teaching them the skills needed for a successful life, whether or not they decide to stay involved in the Performing Arts!
Good luck Competition Dancers... you're all winners... enjoy the journey!

BDM Music Recital... was sweet, sweet music!

Well, another successful Music Recital at the Beaches Dance & Music Studio was held last Friday evening. Parents, grandparents, siblings and friends, all came out to support our aspiring musicians and singers on this talent filled night! From drum beats, to singers belting out their favorite tune, to piano duets, and much more... our BDM Music teachers are all so proud of our multi-talented students! We might just become the next 'school of rock'! :)
The Music Dept just keeps getting better and better... check it out

New Mural for Beaches Dance and Music

Thank You ‘Beaches Community Centre 55’… for the graffiti clean up & gorgeous new mural behind our BDM studio, and thank you Beach Metro News for this lovely article in your August 2013 issue! BDM Studio is happy to support local artists, while also helping to clean up the community…

Dance, Fitness, Music, Cross Training… connect the dots!

Summer 2014 just flew by! After our BDM Recital in June, (which by the way was exceptionally “fantastic”) we shifted gears and jumped in to our Musical Theatre camps, Dance camps & Dance Intensive program during the month of July. Then, hello August… which was spent doing basic cleaning, maintenance, and preparations for our Studio opening in September. Oh, almost forgot to mention…  we now have Marley dance flooring in Studio A, thanks to an anonymous donation. What can I say, we’re loved here at BDM

So all in all a very busy, yet very productive summer here at the Studio. Now, we’re back in to the swing of things at the Beaches Dance and Music Studio, and I have to say it feels great! Classes started up again on Sept 8th, and boy oh boy the place is jumpin’! With some new classes in both our Music & Dance department, our students and teachers are off to a great year.

As always our BDM staff are educating all  of our students to understand the importance of how music, dance and fitness are all connected. As well, how the benefits of the ‘Arts’ to children are very important. Just to name a few of these benefits: health,  physical activity, cross training for sports, learning the history of certain art forms, self esteem, self confidence, stress relief, learning how music & dance compliment each other, and simply… enjoying being a part of the ‘Arts World’. When one connects all of these things, it helps us achieve a deeper understanding and love of what we do here at the Beaches Dance and Music Studio. We’re not just another dance studio, teaching steps to music… but rather a place where we make the connection between how music makes us feel, the language of our movements, and taking in all the benefits of what we’re learning. As one student put it after her Tap dance class – “That was so much fun, I felt like I was drumming with my feet. I like making music with my feet.. it makes me so happy!”
